Season One of the Prairie Song Folk Club opens with an exceptional night of songwriting featuring Matt Patershuk and Edmonton favourite Ben Sures. Widely regarded as one of Canada’s finest roots writers, Patershuk brings his deeply human storytelling and acclaimed album Dog, Tiger, Horses to the stage in a performance shaped by prairie wisdom, warm humour, and timeless country-folk craft. Joining him is longtime local treasure Ben Sures, whose masterful guitar work, sharp wit, and heartfelt songs have made him one of Alberta’s most beloved songwriters for decades. Together, the two artists set the tone for the club’s inaugural season with a night rooted in authenticity, connection, and world-class songwriting.

Mallory Chipman is a prairie-born singer-songwriter, producer, and scholar known for her acrobatic voice and richly crafted storytelling. Her 2024 album Songs to a Wild God reached #1 on CKUA and #5 on the Folk Alliance International charts, earning praise across NPR and SiriusXM. Blending folk, rock, and genre-spanning influences, her work has been called “the finest folk-rock currently being made” (Amplify Magazine). A 2026 Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, Chipman continues to build momentum with her 2025 EP the time, solidifying her place as a standout voice in Canadian folk.

Scott Cook has been living the troubadour life since 2007, when he left a teaching career to tour full-time from his van, performing over 150 shows a year across Canada, the U.S., and beyond. His plainspoken, keenly observant songwriting has earned him multiple Canadian Folk Music Award nominations and chart-topping success on Alberta’s CKUA radio network. His latest project, Tangle of Souls, pairs a critically acclaimed album with a 240-page book of stories from the road. Now travelling in a campervan with partner Pamela Mae on upright bass and vocals, Cook continues to tour internationally in support of his upcoming eighth album, Troubadourly Yours.

Kaeley Jade is an Edmonton-based Métis singer-songwriter whose powerful voice and vivid storytelling bring emotional depth to alternative-folk. Her latest album, The Great Unknown, blends earthy textures, expansive percussion, and soaring guitars into a cinematic exploration of change, vulnerability, and resilience. Her debut Turpentine earned a Canadian Folk Music Award, multiple accolades, and national radio success, marking her as a rising voice in the Canadian scene. With a background in theatre and over 150 performances across Canada, Kaeley delivers a dynamic live show that moves effortlessly between intimate and full-band energy.

John Hewitt is one of Western Canada’s hardest-working troubadours, performing over 150 shows a year and earning a reputation for vivid, story-driven songwriting. Drawing on the traditions of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Neil Young, his songs blend folk, rock, and poetic prairie storytelling. Whether solo or with his band The New Americans, Hewitt delivers a dynamic live show filled with rich harmonies, sharp lyrics, and disarming humour. His latest releases, including Which Side Are You On? and Chaos & Conversation, showcase an independent artist hitting his stride and building a growing international audience.

Leanne Lightfoot carries her songs on raw, honest vocals that trace the quiet beauty of joy and sorrow, shaped by life’s hard-earned lessons. Writing of love and longing, the pull of the land, and the unseen threads that bind us, she invites listeners into intimate song-stories drawn from lived experience and borrowed lives alike. Woven with gentle humour and warm backstory, her performances offer rich emotional texture—where past and present blur, and where heartache and hope linger long after the music falls still.

Jay Gilday is a Yellowknife-born artist of Dene and Irish heritage whose music weaves together Dene spirituals, Irish ballads, and contemporary folk and rock. A former Edmonton busker, he has grown into a powerful performer known for soulful, electrifying live shows, both solo and with his full band. His album Faster Than Light earned him Indigenous Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, along with multiple Edmonton Music Awards. Through projects like Sechile Sedare with his sister Leela Gilday, Jay continues to honour his roots while carving out a distinct and compelling voice in Canadian music.

In June, we gather in celebration of both National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month.
